Learn to Read the Forest.

Discover biodiversity beyond the obvious—with science, ethics, and passion.

Our Story

Costa Rica is a country that asks you to slow down and observe. For over a decade, I’ve answered that call by guiding travelers through its forests, not just to spot iconic wildlife, but to uncover the hidden layers of life that most people pass by. Neotropic Wildlife Expeditions was born from the conviction that a true naturalist experience goes far deeper than a checklist: it’s about understanding relationships, awakening curiosity, and learning to read the landscape like a living book.

My path into this world had a humble but decisive spark: a pair of binoculars my cousin gave me as a gift. That simple gesture pulled me into the universe of birds, and soon after, into the broader realms of botany, entomology, and the philosophical questions that nature constantly poses. As I developed a critical eye—both for identifying species and for sensing what the thoughtful traveler really needs—I built an approach that blends scientific rigor with genuine, unhurried conversation. Today, based in La Fortuna and operating throughout Costa Rica, I’ve shaped an expedition style that refuses shortcuts: no made-up facts, no stressed wildlife, no generic scripts. Just deep observation, ethical practice, and a contagious passion for the small wonders that keep the forest alive.

Our Mission

To transmit my passion so that each person discovers their own. By the end of an expedition I want you to read the forest with new eyes—observing the smallest details, understanding hidden connections, and bonding with Costa Rican biodiversity and culture from a more authentic place. We don’t chase checklists of species; we chase experiences that ignite curiosity and respect.

What Sets Us Apart

  • Multidisciplinary & Verified Knowledge: I’m a guide certified by the ICT (Costa Rican Tourism Institute) and I constantly update my training through private and open courses in biology, first aid, and more. I don’t improvise or repeat outdated information—unfortunately common among many guides—because responsibility and respect for you demand accuracy.

  • Uncompromising Biological Ethics: Touching, handling, or stressing wildlife for a photo goes against my principles and Costa Rican law. You’ll observe snakes, frogs, birds, and all organisms in freedom, without interference. Authentic magic happens without disturbance.

  • The Traveler Is More Than a Client: Whether you’re a scientist, a photographer, a birder, a herpetology enthusiast, or simply someone reconnecting with nature, I tailor each outing to your perspective. What matters is your real experience, the deep conversations, and the learning you take home.

  • Real Sustainability: Every expedition minimizes impact and actively supports the conservation of the ecosystems we visit.

Our Core Values

  • Biological Ethics: The wellbeing of organisms and ecosystem integrity come before any commercial or photographic interest.

  • Sustainability: Our practices protect natural heritage.

  • Passion: The engine that turns a walk into a revelation.

About Me

I’m Bryan Ramirez, founder and guide of Neotropic Wildlife Expeditions. For over ten years I’ve roamed Costa Rican forests and collaborated on projects linking science, conservation, and conscious tourism. My greatest satisfaction arrives when a traveler tells me, “Now I see the forest differently.” That shift in perspective is what I pursue every day.
